Robert Richards practices as a solicitor and has a strong background in accounting and finance. He specialises in income tax, capital gains tax, state duties, goods and services tax, superannuation, and related corporate law and trust matters. He has over 25 years experience as a tax specialist. Apart from providing and implementing advice he assists in the management of tax audits and tax and related litigation.
Robert has a Bachelor of Commerce (University of New South Wales), Bachelor of Laws (University of Sydney), and Diploma of Superannuation Management (Macquarie University). Prior to establishing his own practice he was a partner with what are now chartered accountants KPMG and subsequently an international partner with lawyers Baker & McKenzie.
Since commencing practice on his own account his clients have included major Australian and international companies, financial institutions, resource companies and high net wealth individuals. He provides specialist advice and opinions to accountants, other solicitors and the bar. He is particularly involved in the design and implementation of business structures (which involves all of income tax, capital gains tax, goods and services tax, and state duties).
Robert was the monthly tax contributor to the journal of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants for over 25 years, has been a monthly contributor to The Law Society Journal of New South Wales for over 10 years, has written a number of tax texts and guides, regularly lectures in Australia and overseas, and is sought after as a tax commentator by major Australian media outlets.
Robert is based in Sydney but his clients are resident throughout Australia and overseas.
Whilst Robert practices on his own account, when required for major assignments he has access to a team of other specialised lawyers in tax and other disciplines.
